"Luminate Lets the Light Shine In

A kiwi and international line up of musicians had the crowds dancing around the clock during Luminate 2010, a five day festival on top of Takaka Hill.More than 1500 people from around the worls attended the event at Canaan Downs to dance in bare feet next to the live stage, learn something new at an assortment of workshops, meditate, or just take a family holiday...The site was an array of colours, featuring flags, teepees and art installations made using sacred geometry and natural resources. There were no rubbish bins at the zero waste event, and people has to bring their own crockery and cutlery if they wanted to buy food at the market. The most popular acts included renowned British dub music producer the Mad Professor and high energy Australian groups Wild Marmalade and Chocolate Strings. Between dancing people participated in a variety of music, art, holistic therapy and yoga workshops. "

LUMINATE '09 - Earth friendly festival of music, dance, art, creativity and sustainability.

What an amazing festival! We are very grateful for the massive tide of positive feedback that has been flowing our way. Thanx to everyone who performed at, worked on and supported the festival and helped to make it such a success.

The unique energy at Luminate was a credit to everyone who participated in this gathering and celebration of conscious community. The theme of making sustianable choices and taking responsibility for the creation of our reality runs throughout all strands of the festival, and is clearly resonating with many people.

Our clean environment policy was a real success: with no rubbish bins or recycling on site, and with the bring your own container approach for the refreshment stalls, the land remained beautifully clean and tidy.

Numbers at the festival were double that of last year, and there is already much excitement at the prospect of next year's event. The workshops were very popular and we thank all the facilitators who shared their skills and knowlege with such passion and creativity.

We're updating information regularly. Make sure you check out the Gallery for photos.

If you have some cool photos of Luminate that you'd like to share, do e mail us and we'll add them to the Gallery with your credits.

We very much value the support of our expansive community as we co-create this annual event.

LUMINATE '08:  Litter-free Luminate:   Zero waste a Success!!!

7-11th Feb 2008, Canaan Downs, Takaka Hill, Nelson, NZ.

First of all massive respect to all those hundreds of Luminated beings who embraced our vision of self reliance and sustainability and helped to create an immaculately litter free festival!

With no rubbish bins or recycling on site, everyone packed out all that they brought in, whilst the campgrounds and entire festival site remained virtually spotless for the duration! Wicked!! Thankyou!!!

And thanks to all the stallholders providing ceramics and working with us to encourage people to bring their own plates and cups - this massively reduced the waste generated. Nice one!!

Big ups to all the crew that worked such long hours setting up the festival infrastructure and during the festival :)  and to the hugely talented performers - may you all be showered with abundance in many forms - you guys rock!

The feedback has been incredibly positive and the desire for Luminate to continue as a yearly event has been overwhelming in a very nice way!

Luminate will be celebrating Lughnasadgh again in February 2009 with another five day earth friendly festival. Stay tuned!

Love & light xxx
